Third Grade Weekly Update

Here is a look at what were working on this week:

Language Arts: Students will finish their fairy tale books and present them towards the end of the week.

This week will focus on reviewing and revisiting grammar and writing concepts. This will include: capitalization, punctuation, types of sentences, story maps, character traits, antonyms and synonyms.

CCSS: RL.2 Recount stories-fables/folktales/myths; determine message, lesson moral. RI.1 Determine main ideas and recount key details. RF.4 Read aloud fluently, accurately, and with natural expression. W.3 Write focused, organized, and edited pieces of writing to tell a story


Math: Estimating to Add and Subtract (Round and Add Hundreds, Sketching & Writing Expanded Notation, About How Far?, Solving Travel Miles Problems)

CCSS: OA.8 Solve two-step word problems using the four operation. NBT.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms. NBT.3 Use Place Value understanding to one numbers to the nearest 10;100

Literature (AR- Accelerated Reader): Please encourage your child to read independently at home. 

Religion: We Worship, part 2.

Ch 13: “The Word of God”

Goal: How God speaks to us and how we listen and respond

Social Studies:  “Settling in California”

Essential Question: Why did people come to California?

Science: Mini-Lessons followed by writing prompts

“How is money made?”

“How deep does the ocean go?”

“Why is so hard for firefighters to put out wildfires?”

Homework: I would like for students to finish their fairy tale books for homework this week. It should be colored and reflect their best effort. I’ve also assigned them a piece of a Creche scene that we will be creating as a class.
