Second Grade Update

Dear Second Grade Families,

Catholic Schools Week is this week! We celebrate Faith, Excellence, and Service! There are many important updates and changes to our typical schedule. PLEASE READ!

Below is our update. 🙂

Focus Areas for Our Learning:

  • Reading – We will continue SUPER Magazine this week with a focus on using context clues to understand unfamiliar words and reviewing the common text features of nonfiction texts.
  • Grammar/Spelling – In Superkids, students will practice the letter-sound correspondences igh/ī/, aught/ôt/, and ought/ôt/ as well as  ph/f/ and gh/f/.
  • Writing – We will continue our unit on fictional narrative writing and discuss problem and solution plots. Students will develop their story plans to map out the beginning/middle/ends of their stories.
  • Math – Students will review measurement concepts previously introduced and expand to understanding the relationship between inches, feet, and yards. We will also practice counting with money to gain familiarity with coins and symbols.
  • Religion – We will wrap up our chapter on the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Students will begin practicing the Act of Contrition prayer.

Updates for this Week:

  • Catholic Schools Week – There are many events this week! Please read the rest of this email carefully.
  • Wednesday’s Assignments – Students need to get into the habit of putting all Wednesday assignments BACK in their backpack for school on Thursday. Thank you for your assistance with this. I want to make sure they have what they need on Thursdays. 🙂
  • School-wide Service Project – As you read in the school newsletter, we are supporting Building Futures, an organization that connects clients with shelter, interim housing, rapid re-housing and permanent supportive housing. Second grade has been assigned hand sanitizer. If you haven’t had a chance to send a donation in with your child, there is still time! We are so grateful for any donation you could make!
