Third Grade Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

I hope this email finds you well and enjoying the day. As the weeks are beginning to fly by with a busy life full of work, sports, homework, dinner, dishes etc., I’ve recently tried to slow down and look forward to the smaller joys found during the week: a crossword puzzle, a series to enjoy with my kids or sitting on my front porch to take in a little sun. It’s a bit of a mind shift, but worth the effort.

On another note, many students let me know they looked over their report cards with their parents. If you were unable to, there is still time! Teaching students about academic standards and grades at an early age will allow them to see how their efforts and hard work pays off, and you’d be surprised at how many want to strive to reach the best grade they can.

Here are some dates to plan for:

  • Friday, Mar. 31: Noon Dismissal
  • Tuesday, April. 4: Stations of the Cross
  • Wednesday, April 5: Tenebrae
  • Thursday, April 6: Field Trip to SF Ballet from 9:30-1:00pm
  • Friday, April 7th: Good Friday, NO SCHOOL
  • Mon.-Fri., April 10-14: NO SCHOOL, Easter Break
  • Tuesday, April 25: Free Dress April Bdays
  • Thursday, April 27: Spirit day Free Dress- Class themes

Please make sure to read our SPN Weekly Newsletter to keep up with school information and events!

Next week we will begin making a diorama on “Wild Weather” as a culminating project for our science unit. All students need to bring in either a shoe box or some other small box (Amazon delivers in many sizes), plus any other items they might need to depict a scene. I will provide many of the supplies and will go over this further with students next week.

Lastly, our resource teacher Mrs. Kimmerling is offering tutoring sessions this summer for all those who would like to keep up or fill in academic gaps before the next school year. You can find her flyer here.

What Our Families are Saying

"The supportive teachers at SPN played a big role in preparing me for high school and helping me understand what to expect. They encouraged me to ask questions and seek help when needed, which made me more confident in my learning. Thanks to them, I entered freshman year already familiar with many concepts and effective study habits that have helped me stay on top of my work. SPN also taught me valuable life skills that I still use today, helping me succeed academically, build strong friendships, and maintain my overall well-being."
— Tibby Horvath, SPN Class of 2022
"We are very satisfied with the SPN community, something that is important to our family. My children feel safe and comfortable with SPN. Our family feels connected with the SPN community from parents and families to the staff and faculty. My children and we as parents have made healthy and positive relationships with other families from school. We share time outside of school with other families which brings a level of connectedness I don't know if we would have elsewhere"
— SPN Parent
"My children are experiencing community in other ways than just friends and playdates. Faith Families is an example of community, interacting with students from all grade levels, and learning and creating for others outside of SPN. Field trips to Kids Against Hunger or the Alameda Food Bank where they work and see firsthand how their efforts help others less fortunate, for those who are in need of support. Community is not just our SPN ‘bubble,’ and that is what SPN demonstrates and provides– opportunity to explore a bigger community."
