Second Grade Update – Happy Summer!

Dear Soon-to-be-Third-Grade Families, 🙂

Happy last day of school!

Yesterday, students enjoyed pizza, drinks, and beautiful fruit bowls from the Longs (thank you so much for your generosity!!) as well as an ice cream truck treat of their choice!

For our last reflection activity, we recalled what compliments are (kind, positive comments that are sincere and from the heart) and discussed how they can impact others and ourselves. We talked about our class community and the importance of taking time to recognize the good things in each other. Students designed their own names on a page and then took time walking around the classroom to write on each other’s pages. As relaxing music played in the background, I was struck by your children’s desire to do a good job – they spent over half an hour in almost complete silence. A sort of reverence filled the classroom as they thought about their classmates. It was so moving. After having time to read their compliments quietly, we regrouped, and I asked if anyone wanted to share a comment that made them feel good. So many hands went up, and as they shared, not only did the sharing student smile, but the person who wrote the compliment brightened as well.

In a world that can be very self-focused at times, these activities of recognizing and articulating the strengths and goodness of others are so important, and I am grateful we got to share the experience with your amazing children. It’s hard to imagine a second grade group doing a better job with this activity – you’re raising wonderful people! 🙂

Slideshow
To wrap up our year and relive our memories together, we watched our second grade slideshow, attached here. 🙂

Clever Activities
My Clever page will be up through at least July 31st in case your children want to access reading/math programs, songs, games, the slideshow, etc.

Thank YOU!
Thank you SO much for your partnership this year and for giving us the opportunity to love your children! Mrs. Serles and I truly appreciated the cards from your children, flowers, gift cards, and treats. We wish you all a fantastic summer filled with joy and some relaxation!

All the best,
Catherine

What Our Families are Saying

"The supportive teachers at SPN played a big role in preparing me for high school and helping me understand what to expect. They encouraged me to ask questions and seek help when needed, which made me more confident in my learning. Thanks to them, I entered freshman year already familiar with many concepts and effective study habits that have helped me stay on top of my work. SPN also taught me valuable life skills that I still use today, helping me succeed academically, build strong friendships, and maintain my overall well-being."
— Tibby Horvath, SPN Class of 2022
"We are very satisfied with the SPN community, something that is important to our family. My children feel safe and comfortable with SPN. Our family feels connected with the SPN community from parents and families to the staff and faculty. My children and we as parents have made healthy and positive relationships with other families from school. We share time outside of school with other families which brings a level of connectedness I don't know if we would have elsewhere"
— SPN Parent
"My children are experiencing community in other ways than just friends and playdates. Faith Families is an example of community, interacting with students from all grade levels, and learning and creating for others outside of SPN. Field trips to Kids Against Hunger or the Alameda Food Bank where they work and see firsthand how their efforts help others less fortunate, for those who are in need of support. Community is not just our SPN ‘bubble,’ and that is what SPN demonstrates and provides– opportunity to explore a bigger community."
— SPN Parent since 2016
