Kindergarten Update

Dear Parents, December 10, 2021

Regarding Report cards- The first Trimester report cards were distributed at Thanksgiving time. Second Trimester report cards will go out again at the end of March.Remember that most students are progressing toward mastery of the standards at this point in the year and will continue to move towards mastery as the year progresses.

For our final week before Christmas Vacation, we will deter from our normal schedule in Language Arts/ SuperKids and Bridges Math. We will do some fun Christmas activities in each subject.  It will be Polar Express Week in Kindergarten ELA! We will complete a book study on the story with an emphasis on reading comprehension and sequencing.  More importantly, we will share and discuss the “reason for the season” with many books and stories about the birth of Jesus.

We will have our Christmas Party for the students on Friday, December 17th. Remember that Friday, December 17th is a minimum day so we will dismiss at 12 Noon THERE IS NO SHARE AND CARE. Students may wear red or green free dress.  Thank you to Phanette Lane for organizing a Christmas craft and thank you to our room mothers Julianne Garcia and Gina Bustos for organizing treats in goody bags for our students.

St. Philip Neri holds an annual Oratorical Fest yearly during Catholic School Week ( January 30th- February 5th,2022.)  Each child in the school memorizes a poem, speech or Bible verse (Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein poems/excerpts or prayers are some other examples).  The minimum amount of lines for Kindergarten is four (4).  Each student will then recite their selection to the class the week of January 17.  We will need a photocopy of the selection along with the author’s name. Please send it via email by January 7.  Specifics will be sent home on Monday, along with the introductory prompt.   If you have any questions or need help finding one, please email and we can make arrangements to help you.

Your child will be bringing home their Friday folders on the last day. Don’t forget to send it back with your child when we return to school on Tuesday, January 4th,2022.

Our  SuperKid this week is Zyna. Thank you to Orion for sharing his things.

What Our Families are Saying

"The supportive teachers at SPN played a big role in preparing me for high school and helping me understand what to expect. They encouraged me to ask questions and seek help when needed, which made me more confident in my learning. Thanks to them, I entered freshman year already familiar with many concepts and effective study habits that have helped me stay on top of my work. SPN also taught me valuable life skills that I still use today, helping me succeed academically, build strong friendships, and maintain my overall well-being."
— Tibby Horvath, SPN Class of 2022
"We are very satisfied with the SPN community, something that is important to our family. My children feel safe and comfortable with SPN. Our family feels connected with the SPN community from parents and families to the staff and faculty. My children and we as parents have made healthy and positive relationships with other families from school. We share time outside of school with other families which brings a level of connectedness I don't know if we would have elsewhere"
— SPN Parent
"My children are experiencing community in other ways than just friends and playdates. Faith Families is an example of community, interacting with students from all grade levels, and learning and creating for others outside of SPN. Field trips to Kids Against Hunger or the Alameda Food Bank where they work and see firsthand how their efforts help others less fortunate, for those who are in need of support. Community is not just our SPN ‘bubble,’ and that is what SPN demonstrates and provides– opportunity to explore a bigger community."
— SPN Parent since 2016
