Kindergarten Update

Dear Parents, October 15,2021

This week we will  be adding Math. “Work Places” to our curriculum in addition to their Interactive Math lessons.  Work Places are specific centers that support our Math curriculum and current focus.  Students will work at their own space to play games or explore with manipulatives.

We have practiced our first Fire Drill this past week and the students were complimented by Ms. Thomas on how well they did. We will practice an Earthquake Drill this week.

We are looking forward to hosting our “Harvest Festival” this Wednesday October 20th! Students should come dressed as farmers or ranchers. Together with our room mothers we have some fun activities planned.  We will have a photo booth for photos of the children as if they were at a farm, classroom lessons focused on harvest, a special snack provided by parent volunteers and pumpkin painting with our 8th grade buddies!

We will celebrate Halloween on Friday October 29th. For Halloween, your child may wear his/her costume to school.  Please be sure that your child has an age appropriate costume and is comfortable. Please be sure to read Ms. Thomas’ communication this coming Tuesday for more specific information.  We will prepare students in class as well. We will begin the day with our annual School Wide Halloween Parade.  Parents are welcome to watch from the sidewalk as we walk the surrounding area.  Following the parade we will come to the classroom for our normal schedule.  We will visit the Carnival set-up by the Student Leadership Council (classes are scheduled to attend by grade) and enjoy a treat and activity sent in by parent volunteers.  It is a minimum day; dismissal is at 12 Noon.

What Our Families are Saying

"The supportive teachers at SPN played a big role in preparing me for high school and helping me understand what to expect. They encouraged me to ask questions and seek help when needed, which made me more confident in my learning. Thanks to them, I entered freshman year already familiar with many concepts and effective study habits that have helped me stay on top of my work. SPN also taught me valuable life skills that I still use today, helping me succeed academically, build strong friendships, and maintain my overall well-being."
— Tibby Horvath, SPN Class of 2022
"We are very satisfied with the SPN community, something that is important to our family. My children feel safe and comfortable with SPN. Our family feels connected with the SPN community from parents and families to the staff and faculty. My children and we as parents have made healthy and positive relationships with other families from school. We share time outside of school with other families which brings a level of connectedness I don't know if we would have elsewhere"
— SPN Parent
"My children are experiencing community in other ways than just friends and playdates. Faith Families is an example of community, interacting with students from all grade levels, and learning and creating for others outside of SPN. Field trips to Kids Against Hunger or the Alameda Food Bank where they work and see firsthand how their efforts help others less fortunate, for those who are in need of support. Community is not just our SPN ‘bubble,’ and that is what SPN demonstrates and provides– opportunity to explore a bigger community."
— SPN Parent since 2016
