Third Grade Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

It’s finally dried out a little today and students were able to enjoy being outside for recess again with equipment! As you can imagine, they start going stir crazy when they don’t have space to run and play.

I’ve talked to students about expectations during the second half of the year. They are solid third graders and are moving closer and closer to becoming fourth graders. That being said, expectations for academic work and classroom behavior will continue to rise, and the importance of being in class on a daily basis allows them to strengthen routines as well as keep up with in-class lessons and content. Make-up work cannot replace what they get from being in class. Thank you for making a continual effort to give your child the in-class time they need to be successful.

Here are some dates to plan for:

  • Friday, Jan. 13: No School- Elementary Staff Day
  • Monday, Jan. 16: No School- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • Wednesday, Jan. 18: Spirit Day- Pajamas!
  • Tuesday, Jan. 24: Free Dress for January Bdays
  • Wednesday, Jan 25: Fall Sports Photos, Noon Dismissal
  • Sunday, Jan. 29: Open House after Mass, Catholic Schools Week Kickoff
  • Friday, Feb. 3: Noon Dismissal- Teacher Appreciation Day

Please remember to read our SPN Weekly Newsletter to keep up with school information and events!

Lastly, we will take our first field trip next Wednesday, January 11th to the Academy of Science in San Francisco. We’ll leave by bus at 8:45 and return by 2:00. Students will need to wear their SPN shirt but can have free dress from the waist down (no ripped jeans or short skirts/shorts). We also require all students to bring a bagged lunch where all items can be disposed of afterwards. The Academy does not have a place to store lunches and we will need to throw everything away afterward.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

What Our Families are Saying

"The supportive teachers at SPN played a big role in preparing me for high school and helping me understand what to expect. They encouraged me to ask questions and seek help when needed, which made me more confident in my learning. Thanks to them, I entered freshman year already familiar with many concepts and effective study habits that have helped me stay on top of my work. SPN also taught me valuable life skills that I still use today, helping me succeed academically, build strong friendships, and maintain my overall well-being."
— Tibby Horvath, SPN Class of 2022
"We are very satisfied with the SPN community, something that is important to our family. My children feel safe and comfortable with SPN. Our family feels connected with the SPN community from parents and families to the staff and faculty. My children and we as parents have made healthy and positive relationships with other families from school. We share time outside of school with other families which brings a level of connectedness I don't know if we would have elsewhere"
— SPN Parent
"My children are experiencing community in other ways than just friends and playdates. Faith Families is an example of community, interacting with students from all grade levels, and learning and creating for others outside of SPN. Field trips to Kids Against Hunger or the Alameda Food Bank where they work and see firsthand how their efforts help others less fortunate, for those who are in need of support. Community is not just our SPN ‘bubble,’ and that is what SPN demonstrates and provides– opportunity to explore a bigger community."
— SPN Parent since 2016
