Third Grade Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

The spirit of Christmas is in the air! Over the past 2 weeks we’ve been reading scriptures and stories from the Jesse Tree that lead up to the coming of Christ on the 25th. Students are able to reflect and discuss how each story prepares us for that special day.

We’ve also had gifts brought in for Adopt-A-Family that are sure to spread joy and love to those in need. We’ll continue accepting donations until next Tuesday, so if you’re out at Target or Trader Joes this weekend, pick up a pack of socks or a gift card to give back to our community.

Next week will bring Reconciliation on Tuesday, our school wide Winter Concert on Thursday night (mandatory) and our class Christmas party on Friday. There will be no homework next week (Shhh, I haven’t told the students yet!).

Here are some other dates to plan for:

  • Sunday, Dec. 11 – Breakfast with Santa
  • Tuesday, Dec. 13 – Free dress for December Bdays
  • Thursday, Dec. 15 – Christmas Concert – 7pm, Student participation mandatory
  • Friday, Dec. 16 – Noon Dismissal – NO SHARE AND CARE
  • Dec 19 – Jan. 2 – Christmas Break: No School, No Share & Care

Please make sure to read our SPN Weekly Newsletter to keep up with school information and events!

Lastly, our Annual Fund drive is still up and running. Please send a check or cash with your child to donate at the front office. Any amount is appreciated and will count as participation for our class (We’re really close and even I donated for Ulysses this morning to work towards that 100%!).

  • All classes that reach 100% by December 12th OR if we meet our goal of $50,000 all classes are eligible for Free Dress on Wednesday, December 14: the first class to reach 100% gets Free Dress and Pizza Lunch on December 14.
    • Class Rankings as of 12/7/22: 47% Family Participation
      • TK: 59% 4th: 69%
      • K: 55% 5th: 53%
      • 1: 56% 6th:  47%
      • 2: 54% 7th: 32%

What Our Families are Saying

"The supportive teachers at SPN played a big role in preparing me for high school and helping me understand what to expect. They encouraged me to ask questions and seek help when needed, which made me more confident in my learning. Thanks to them, I entered freshman year already familiar with many concepts and effective study habits that have helped me stay on top of my work. SPN also taught me valuable life skills that I still use today, helping me succeed academically, build strong friendships, and maintain my overall well-being."
— Tibby Horvath, SPN Class of 2022
"We are very satisfied with the SPN community, something that is important to our family. My children feel safe and comfortable with SPN. Our family feels connected with the SPN community from parents and families to the staff and faculty. My children and we as parents have made healthy and positive relationships with other families from school. We share time outside of school with other families which brings a level of connectedness I don't know if we would have elsewhere"
— SPN Parent
"My children are experiencing community in other ways than just friends and playdates. Faith Families is an example of community, interacting with students from all grade levels, and learning and creating for others outside of SPN. Field trips to Kids Against Hunger or the Alameda Food Bank where they work and see firsthand how their efforts help others less fortunate, for those who are in need of support. Community is not just our SPN ‘bubble,’ and that is what SPN demonstrates and provides– opportunity to explore a bigger community."
— SPN Parent since 2016
