Second Grade Update

Dear Second Grade Families,

I hope this message finds you well! At this point, students are counting down the days until summer break. I can’t blame them! We are winding down an unusual, but wonderful year! 🙂

This week, we will enjoy our final Art Docent lesson for the year. Thank you Mrs. Ortiz for your creativity during remote learning and for now being with us on campus! The students will be excited to see you on Tuesday!

As I mentioned last week, we also have some special year-end events planned. On Thursday, June 10th, we will watch the 8th graders graduate at their Baccalaureate Mass. (We will be in our classroom watching due to Covid restrictions.)

On Friday, June 11th, we will enjoy a walking field trip to Krusi Park. We will maintain all Covid protocols. Students may wear pants/shoes free dress with uniform tops. Diana’s mom has generously offered to donate a nut-free treat for the students to enjoy. Thank you!!

Our End of Year Celebration will take place on Monday, June 14th.  We have a variety of events planned to send off our almost third graders in style!

For the last day of school, St. Philip Neri traditionally has a “Moving Up Ceremony”. We will have our “Moving Up Ceremony” on Tuesday, June 15th in our classroom. Teachers will prepare a send-off speech for their classes and present it on this day. The school will send out a link so that all families can view these speeches.  This is our last day of school and please note, it is a 10:30 dismissal.  There is no Share and Care on this day.
Below is our weekly update:

  • Book Return: I will need the following books returned on Monday, June 14th: Superkids Reader (not workbook) and all Book Club books (Zapato Power or The First Case).
  • Dates to remember:
    • June 8th: PTG end of year event
    • June 11th: Walking field trip to Krusi Park – Pants/shoes free dress with uniform top
    • June 15th: Last day of school – fancy free dress! (10:30 dismissal)

What Our Families are Saying

"The supportive teachers at SPN played a big role in preparing me for high school and helping me understand what to expect. They encouraged me to ask questions and seek help when needed, which made me more confident in my learning. Thanks to them, I entered freshman year already familiar with many concepts and effective study habits that have helped me stay on top of my work. SPN also taught me valuable life skills that I still use today, helping me succeed academically, build strong friendships, and maintain my overall well-being."
— Tibby Horvath, SPN Class of 2022
"We are very satisfied with the SPN community, something that is important to our family. My children feel safe and comfortable with SPN. Our family feels connected with the SPN community from parents and families to the staff and faculty. My children and we as parents have made healthy and positive relationships with other families from school. We share time outside of school with other families which brings a level of connectedness I don't know if we would have elsewhere"
— SPN Parent
"My children are experiencing community in other ways than just friends and playdates. Faith Families is an example of community, interacting with students from all grade levels, and learning and creating for others outside of SPN. Field trips to Kids Against Hunger or the Alameda Food Bank where they work and see firsthand how their efforts help others less fortunate, for those who are in need of support. Community is not just our SPN ‘bubble,’ and that is what SPN demonstrates and provides– opportunity to explore a bigger community."
— SPN Parent since 2016
