Kindergarten Update
Dear Parents, September 19, 2019
We have begun our study in Language Arts with the introduction of the SuperKids Cass and now this week, Oswald. With the introduction of these characters, the students learn phonemic awareness, comprehension, handwriting and encoding. We will specify which skills the students are learning in this weekly update on our Kindergarten website.
The Bridges Math Program is a comprehensive Math curriculum which fully implements the Common Core standards and focuses on developing students’ understanding of mathematical concepts, proficiency with key skills and ability to solve problems. In Unit One this week the students practiced one to one correspondence and cardinality- that is an understanding that once all of the items have been counted, the last number said establishes the quantity.
We will have a Blessing of the animals on the Feast of St. Francis, Friday, October 4th. Students may bring a “real” or stuffed animal pet to the yard in the morning. Father Robert will bless the animals and then the “real” animals must go home. Stuffed animals can be housed in the backpacks until dismissal.
We are continuing our lessons on Listening and Respect. The students are learning how to follow the school and classroom rules and how to be a part of the class and school.
We will conference with parents October 8th-11th. Please send in your conference request form if you have not already done so. They are due on Monday, September 23rd.
The last day to submit book orders is Monday,September 23rd.The book orders will be sent home in backpacks when they arrive.
