Third Grade Weekly Update

Here is a look at what were working on this week:

-Language Arts:

Focus Text: The Trail of Cardigan Jones

Essential Question: Why are courts an important part of our government?

CCSS: RL.3.1 Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers. RF.3.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. SL.3.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 3 topics and texts, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly.

-Math: 

Unit 1- Addition and Subtraction Patterns

Module 1: Double Digit Addition

CCSS:  3.MD.B.4 Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in appropriate units— whole numbers, halves, or quarters.

-Religion: 

Unit 1: We Believe, Part 1

Ch.2: Mary Trusted God

Focus: To identify that Mary showed her faith and trusted in God

Religion Standard: PS3.REL.3: Articulate grade appropriate church doctrine, history and moral issues.

-Social Studies:

Unit: Geography of the Local Region

Focus: Study of geography and how maps represent geographical information

CCSS: 3.1 Use physical geography and human geography to tell about people, places and environments. I can use maps, tables, graphs, pictures, and charts to organize information about people, places and environments 3.1.1 I can locate deserts, mountains, valleys, hills, coastal areas, oceans, and lakes in my region.

-Science: 

Unit: Power of Flowers

Mystery Science: Why do Plants Give us Fruit?

Focus: Process of pollination and fruiting and the process of plant domestication

CCSS: 3.LSI.1 – Describe the life cycles of different animals and flowering plants.

-Homework:

 Math= Home Connection P. 9-10 (Sums and Differences), P. 11-12 (Adding Tens)

ELA=  

  1. Sentences (24) using the spelling words and vocabulary words (1 word per sentence).
  2. Writing Subjects and Predicates/Fragments worksheet

Target Vocabulary: trial, jury, stand, guilty, honest, convinced, pointed, murmur

Spelling Words: spoke, mile, save, excuse, cone, invite, cube, price, erase, ripe, broke, flame, life, rule, surprise, decide
