Third Grade Weekly Update
Here is a look at what were working on this week:
Focus Text: Destiny’s Gift
Essential Question: Why is volunteering good for a community and its people?
CCSS: RL.3.1 Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers. RL.3.3 Describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events. RF.3.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. SL.3.3 Ask and answer questions about information from a speaker, offering appropriate elaboration and detail.
Unit:2- Introduction to Multiplication
Module:1- Multiplying with Arrays & Number Lines
Focus: Students continue to deepen their understanding of multiplication. They make cube trains and paper strips to show the multiples of 2–10. These iterating units help them understand multiplication as comparison: multiplication is something times something else.
CCSS: 3.OA.A.1 Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7.
Unit: We Believe, Part 2
Ch:6 – The Gift of the Holy Spirit
Focus: To learn about the work the Holy Spirit does in the Church
Religion Standard: PS3.REL.3: Articulate grade appropriate church doctrine, history and moral issues.
Unit: Geography of the Local Region
Lesson: -The Geography of Where I Live
Focus: Form an understanding of types of geographical information that are displayed on maps.
Activity: Create a nesting map booklet that shows where they live
CCSS: 3.1 Use physical geography and human geography to tell about people, places and environments. I can use maps, tables, graphs, pictures, and charts to organize information about people, places and environments
Lesson/Article: Plant Structure for Survival
Focus: What are the diverse parts that plants have and how do these parts help them grow, survive and reproduce in different environments
Activity: Who will survive? (Diverse plants and how they function for survival)
CCSS: 3.LSI.1 – Describe the life cycles of different animals and flowering plants.
Math= Our Math homework is shifting. I will be assigning it on a specific day that will correlate directly with what we worked on in class. It will be due the next day.

**Assigned Thursday, due Friday: Home Connection. P. 29-30 (Story Problems and Number Line Puzzles)
ELA= 2 items will be assigned this week and are as follows:
- We will be taking a pre-test for the spelling words on Monday. Students are expected to re-write the words that were spelled incorrectly 3 times each.
- An Antonyms practice worksheet
