Second Grade Update

Dear Second Grade Families,

I hope this message finds you all well! 🙂

The Fun Run lived up to its name and was a blast! Thank you for supporting your child. SPN reached its goal and Mrs. Murray is rewarding all students with free dress on June 1st! 🙂

Below is our weekly update:

Focus Areas for Our Learning:

  • Reading – We will wrap up our SUPER magazine this week. Students will practice connecting text to self, reviewing rhythm and rhyme in poetry, and reading fluently (accuracy, pace, and expression).
  • Grammar/Spelling – In Superkids, students will practice different spellings of the long I sound as well as using comparative adjectives.
  • Writing – Students will finish their animal reports. The focus will be on editing and producing a final informational report.
  • Math – Students will revisit fractions, including an activity to work together and devise a “fair shares” solution for dividing snack bars. 🙂 The class will also continue to work on subtracting larger numbers with regrouping as well as adding/subtracting 10s/100s.
  • Religion – The class will start our chapter about living in God’s image. We will discuss the importance of honoring and respecting all people because we are all children of God.
  • Science – We will continue our read-aloud of “Top Secret”, including responding to questions in our literature journals to synthesize information from the story.
  • Social Studies – We start our unit on the economy and discuss needs versus wants.
