Second Grade Update

Dear Second Grade Families,

Valentine’s Day is approaching! On Friday, we will be having a small party where students may exchange cards if they wish. If your child does bring cards, please make sure they have enough for all students. Thank you!

Please remember we have noon dismissal on Wednesday and Friday this week. There is share and care if needed.

Below are other important updates and dates to remember:

  • What We Are Learning
    • English Language Arts
      • Word Work – reading and encoding pattern words with long a spelled ay, eigh, ange; using adverbs
      • Reading – finishing book clubs; starting SUPER magazine
      • Writing – understanding sequence and using it to draft “how-to” pieces
    • Math – solidifying knowledge of place value; using money
    • Social Studies – working with timelines
    • Science – reviewing the impact of heat on different materials, specifically form and consistency
    • Religion – learning about the Sacrament of Reconciliation

    • Sunday, Feb. 9th – First Communion/Reconciliation luncheon meeting in O’Brien Hall
    • Wednesday, Feb. 12th – Noon dismissal (teacher work day)
    • Thursday, Feb. 13th – Field Trip to Alameda Food Bank (2nd half)
    • Friday, Feb. 14th – Valentine’s Day and noon dismissal
    • Monday, Feb. 17th – No school (President’s Day)
    • Monday, Feb. 24th – Free dress for February birthdays
    • Wednesday, Feb. 26th – All School Mass for Ash Wednesday
    • Tuesday, Mar. 3rd – First Reconciliation at 6:30pm in the Church
