Second Grade Update

Dear Second Grade Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend! I’m looking forward to the week ahead with your children!

SPN’s annual book fair runs next Monday through Friday (18th-22nd). On Monday, the class will be previewing the books that are available. It would be great if your child could attend one afternoon after school!

Below are other important updates and dates to remember:

  • What We Are Learning
    • English Language Arts
      • Word Work – reading/writing words with oi, oy/oi/, ow, ou/ou/, ow/ō/; identifying and spelling homophones
      • Reading – determining important ideas in informational text and using illustrations and text to compare/contrast ideas and situations
      • Writing – using research to draft informational writing about landforms
    • Math – using strategies based on place value to add 2-digit numbers with sums to 100; persevering in problem-solving
    • Social Studies – exploring and celebrating the diversity of resources, weather, animals, landforms and cultures within our country
    • Science – continuing discussion of landforms (connecting to social studies); modeling erosion and possible scientific solutions
    • Religion – learning about Jesus, the Savior; understanding how we can show God’s love to others through sacrifice

    • Monday-Friday, Nov. 18th-22nd – Book Fair!
    • Friday, Nov. 22nd – Report Card Day
    • Monday-Friday, Nov. 25th-29th – Thanksgiving Break!
