Welcome to Kindergarten

Dear Parents, August 27,2021

Our first week in Kindergarten went very well!  The students are adapting well to the routines of Kindergarten. Thank you for following the guidelines for drop off procedures in the morning as well as pickup in the afternoon. The students are adhering to the wearing of masks in class well. In addition we have many sanitizing provisions in the classroom (and throughout the school)  for keeping us all safe. Students are learning classroom procedures including procedures for recess and enrichment classes. They are learning the steps for how to listen in class and how to be patient.

This Weekly News Update for Kindergarten will be posted every Friday on the Kindergarten website. It is usually posted by Friday afternoon and will detail the following week’s plans, activities and any other important reminders for parents. Please be sure to check it weekly.

We will begin to do some preliminary individual testing on IPADS next week to determine students’ skill levels for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math. We use the STAR Early Literacy Assessment and ESGI.

Kindergarten will begin to have a “Super Kid” of the Week.  The teachers will be the first “Super Kids”. Each child will have a turn to be our “Super Kid”.  Your child will receive an “All About Me” sheet to complete with the assistance of parents. In addition, there will be directions for what to bring to school. We will send the directions on a Friday; it is due on the following Monday. Students will share on Wednesday. All items will be returned. This is a nice way for the children to get to know their classmates and teachers.

Your child will be bringing home an envelope on most Fridays that has all of their completed work done at school. Please empty the envelope, sign it and return so we may use it every Friday. This will begin soon. Thanks for your assistance.

For this month, we would like for parents to practice having your child make the Sign of the Cross and say the words. We will follow with learning simple prayers after that. These are important so that they may become a part of the church and school community.  This and additional information will go home the Tuesday after Labor Day in their Monthly Project Folders.

Don’t forget our “Back to School Night” will be Thursday, September 2nd. This will be done virtually this year There will be two sessions for those who have more than one child.

The link and timing for this will be sent on Tuesday, August 31st. Your “Back to School Night” packet will detail many of the curriculum, learning expectations, etc. questions which you might have.

Please send an OVERSIZED old shirt with your child’s name on it so they can use it when we do painting in Art Class and other messy activities.
