December will be a busy month for all of us. We are looking forward to some seasonal activities as well as continuing with our studies. With that in mind, we will not have our usual homework monthly assignments; instead, we would like to concentrate on the meaning of Christmas by having you read with your child. The children have made an advent chain on which are listed 25 names for Jesus- one for each day of Advent. The chain is numbered and the scripture passage for each name is written on each loop. Each night one loop should be removed and perhaps you can read the scripture passage with you child each night. There are also many wonderful books about the birth of Jesus that you can share with your child.
The students did a wonderful job of sharing their Thankfulness Boards with their classmates. They are now displayed in the hallway outside our room.Please come see them any time before or after school.
The Diocese of Oakland is sponsoring Christmas Card contest. Check out the details on the sheet sent home in your child’s Friday folder and if interested, please have your child submit a design.Wouldn’t it be wonderful for a Kindergartner from our school to win the design contest?
The students have new classroom and lunch table group seating assignments.We try to encourage meeting and making new friends.

ELA/Superkids Curriculum-Continue with new Superkid- “Hot Rod”, associate letters with initial sounds, trace memory word “the”, track print from left to right, top to bottom, understand idioms, answer questions about a story, draw conclusions, determine cause and effect, blend sounds to decode words,follow oral directions, recognize plot, problem and solution
Math.-Begin Unit 3-Count to 20 by 1’s,represent addition with objects, make sense of problems and persevere in solving them, use ten frames to explore how to represent quantity in a variety of ways,build an understanding of doubles through ten frames in a pair -wise orientation ( i.e. 2+2=4, 3+3=6, etc.), count by 2’s to 20, identify the number of objects as the last number said when counting a group of objects, count collections of objects in different ways to demonstrate that the arrangement of objects and the order in which they are counted do not change the total number of objects
Science- Continue with Five Senses.
