Kindergarten Update

Dear Parents, April 29,2022

In light of the most recent lifting of mask requirements for students, we have removed the plexiglass dividers from the student tables that have been in place since the beginning of the school year.  It is much easier for the students to hear each other as well as to complete work in their collaborative groups and reading groups!   We have also adjusted some seating arrangements in order to ensure a maximum learning environment.  Students are learning to work quietly as well as independently in preparation for First Grade. Students are asked to clear away their distractions, stay on task and complete their work in a timely manner. We are currently working on mid-trimester reports that we will send home next week in the Friday folder.

The month of May is a busy one. Our Spring Concert will be on Thursday, May 12th at 7PM in the church. All students are required to be in attendance for this event.  Information for the dress for this concert will be forthcoming. On that same evening, families are invited into the classrooms to see work that our students have produced during the year. This impromptu Open House will coincide with Celebration of the Arts from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This is a great time to check out your students’ classrooms and also visit the grade levels ahead to see what’s to come. At 6:30 p.m. students return to their classrooms and parents may find seats in the church to prepare for the concert that will begin at 7:00 p.m.

As you know, we are planning a study of the world’s greatest artists with your children this month.  Your child will learn about several of the world’s most famous artists in conjunction with the book EIEIART by author Mari Tzikas Suarez. The students will study the artists, share information that they’ve learned about the artists and create an art piece in the style of the artist.

We are busy preparing a special gift for our moms in honor of Mother’s Day.Those have taken lots of planning and preparation!  Expect them next Friday!

We will have a special prayer service honoring the Feast of St. Philip Neri on Thursday, May 26th.  It will take place in the Main Yard.

In addition to finishing up the last three units in the SuperKids Club this month, students will continue to work on their  Writing Research Unit in which they are encouraged to write and share thoughts and information about an animal. After learning how to prepare a story web about an animal, students then use their story web to create a diagram and label the animal.  They then add detailed sentences and facts with accompanying illustrations to form a book. It has been fun to see what students have accomplished and then to share their creativity! We hope that you enjoyed their books.

Students will have one last project for Kindergarten in the month of May.  It will be a Saint study.  Your child will select any Saint that they would like to learn about, complete a project on and share with the class. Information will go home next week as this is their final monthly project!

Our SuperKid next week is Lucia.

Thank you to the Art Docent moms who came to do a money lesson and make piggy banks with the students on Friday- Maxwell’s Mom, Bennett Lane’s Mom and Orion’s Mom!
