First Grade Weekly Update

  • What fun we had celebrating our 100th Day of school! Look for some of the concrete activities to come home in the Tuesday Classwork envelope. I challenged some students to complete some of the tasks they didn’t have time to finish.
  • This week is a different schedule with a a noon dismissal on Wednesday and Friday. Share and Care is available both days, but not Choice Lunch.
  • Students may bring Valentines for all their classmates (18) on Friday-addressed ‘To Friend” and signed.
  • If your child is interested in participating in the Diocesan Young Authors Faire in the spring, please ask for the guidelines.

Here’s a look at what we’ll be working on:

Language Arts

  • reading: That’s Fast, A Helmet for Hot Rod and Race Day
  • handwriting
  • sight words: said only you out of here
  • plural nouns
  • rhyming
  • phonics:
    • long vowels with CVCe pattern (cake, bike, bone, flute…)
    • add ed and ing to CVCe (baked, baking)
  • Writing
    • short messages to a classmate
    • friendly letters

Math

  • developing number sense in 0-120 range-values change depending where a number is on the number line
  • addition and subtraction stories
  • place value

Religion

  • God loves Mary
  • Mary says yes to God
  • St. Valentine

Science

  • What does your shadow do when you’re not looking?
