First Grade Weekly Update
- What fun we had celebrating our 100th Day of school! Look for some of the concrete activities to come home in the Tuesday Classwork envelope. I challenged some students to complete some of the tasks they didn’t have time to finish.
- This week is a different schedule with a a noon dismissal on Wednesday and Friday. Share and Care is available both days, but not Choice Lunch.
- Students may bring Valentines for all their classmates (18) on Friday-addressed ‘To Friend” and signed.
- If your child is interested in participating in the Diocesan Young Authors Faire in the spring, please ask for the guidelines.

Language Arts
- reading: That’s Fast, A Helmet for Hot Rod and Race Day
- handwriting
- sight words: said only you out of here
- plural nouns
- rhyming
- phonics:
- long vowels with CVCe pattern (cake, bike, bone, flute…)
- add ed and ing to CVCe (baked, baking)
- Writing
- short messages to a classmate
- friendly letters
Math
- developing number sense in 0-120 range-values change depending where a number is on the number line
- addition and subtraction stories
- place value
Religion
- God loves Mary
- Mary says yes to God
- St. Valentine
Science
- What does your shadow do when you’re not looking?
